Hello,
My name is Louise and I am a nurse at Concordia University Health Services. A student who attends :

CHICKEN POX
A student member has come down with Chicken Pox. Chicken Pox is a common and highly contagious infection. The symptoms of Chicken Pox are the following:
· In the prodromal phase ( before the rash develops ) you may have slight fever, malaise and loss of appetite.
· An itchy rash which initially begins on the trunk or scalp and progresses to the face. The legs and arms are rarely involved.
· Initially, the rash looks like flat red spots, then they progress to elevated lesions filled with clear liquid. These vesicles then break and scabs forms.
· New lesions continue to appear for 3 or 4 days, so the rash can contain lesions in various stages.
This disease spreads easily via the respiratory secretions; less often with skin lesions.Chicken Pox is communicable from 1 day before the rash begins, until all lesions are crusty and dry.
If you have not had Chicken Pox, it is recommended that you avoid close contact with someone who has Chicken Pox
There is an anti viral medication that will decrease the severity of Chicken Pox, if it started within 72 hours of the onset of the rash. Please contact Health Services.
Also contact Health Services if:
· You have a chronic illness, are immunosupressed, or are using immunosupressive medication.
· You are pregnant and never had Chicken Pox.
· You require more information.
